
Why we put our bathroom heaters through “the torture chamber”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. Between the thick steam, the humidity, and the way the temperature swings from freezing to boiling in five minutes, most infrared lamps just can’t hack it. They burn out. Fast. We’ve seen the data sheets from other companies, but we don’t trust them. Instead, we take every single batch of our mirror heaters and throw them into a damp-heat aging chamber. It’s basically a stress test to make sure your heaters don’t quit on you a few weeks after you’ve installed them. The battle against steam Here is the problem: water vapor is sneaky. It finds the tiniest gaps in a lamp’s seal. Once that moisture hits the hot quartz or the electrical contacts, things go south. You get oxidation, short circuits, or that ugly “blackening” of the tube. So, we simulate years of bathroom showers in a matter of days. We blast the lamps with high heat and heavy humidity. If a seal is going to fail, we want it to happen in our lab—not in your customer’s house. Handling the heat Since these heaters live in such a small space, they have to work hard. They need to be hot enough to clear fog off a mirror instantly, but the materials have to be able to expand and shrink without snapping. We spend a lot of time watching how the filaments react when they’re turned on and off repeatedly in wet conditions. It stops the tungsten from getting brittle. No one wants a heating element that snaps the moment the temperature drops. Finding the sweet spot You might think, “Just make the seal thicker!” But it’s not that simple. If you over-seal the lamp, you trap internal gases, which actually kills the lamp faster. It’s a balancing act. We tweak the seal until it’s tight enough to keep the steam out, but breathable enough that the unit doesn’t overheat its own housing. We track every failure across 1,000+ hours of this accelerated aging.
