In that kind of environment, a standard infrared lamp isn’t just a tool—it’s a liability. One tiny spark or a bit of frayed insulation, and you’ve got a disaster on your hands. We figured out a way to stop worrying about that. We started building our infrared heating assemblies with specialized Teflon (PTFE) wire and reinforced encapsulation.
Why the Teflon Matters
If you’ve ever used PVC or silicone wiring in a chemical zone, you know they don’t last. The solvents just eat through them. We switched to Teflon because it actually holds up. It doesn’t care about chemical attacks, and it stays strong even when things get hot. But we didn’t stop at the wires. We seal the connection points tight. Why? Because corrosive vapors love to sneak into lamp terminals. If they get in, your heater burns out or shorts. By sealing them off, we keep the “bad stuff” out and your equipment running.
The Trade-off (The Honest Part)
The encapsulation creates a physical wall between the heat and the fumes. It stops that dreaded “arc-over” effect. You get steady heat without turning your cleaning tank into a bomb. Now, here is the catch. Adding that protective layer changes how the heat moves. Since the coating acts as a bit of insulation, you might notice it doesn’t hit the target temperature as fast as a bare quartz lamp. You’ll probably need to spec a slightly higher wattage to make up for it. It’s a simple balance: a little more power for a lot more peace of mind.
Making It Work in Your Lab
We designed these to be drop-in replacements. We know how cramped chemical hoods get, so we kept the footprint small. Plus, those Teflon-jacketed leads are a lifesaver. You can route them right through contaminated zones without stressing over the insulation cracking or melting. Less time spent replacing melted wires means more time actually getting work done.
