If you’re trying to hit those global cleanroom standards, infrared (IR) curing is usually the way to go. It’s clean, it’s lead-free, and it just makes sense for the environment. Think about a convection oven. You’re heating up all the air in the room just to get the part hot. It’s a waste. IR is different. It sends energy straight into the substrate. No chemical solvents, no wasted power, and a much smaller footprint.
Why we swear by Teflon wiring
Here is where things get tricky. These heaters get incredibly hot. If you used standard PVC or silicone wiring, the jackets would melt or start off-gassing. In a cleanroom, that’s a nightmare—you can’t have random fumes contaminating your wafers. That’s why we use Teflon (PTFE) insulated wiring. It doesn’t flinch under thermal stress. It resists chemicals and stays stable while the heater is cranking. It’s the only way to make sure you don’t end up with a short circuit right when the machine hits its peak temperature.

The real secret is matching the lamp’s wavelength to the coating’s absorption band. Basically, you aren’t wasting electricity heating up the metal frame of the machine. You’re targeting the part itself. It’s fast. Really fast. We’re talking about shrinking a curing window from hours down to a few minutes. It completely changes how the workflow feels.
The trade-offs (and what to watch for)
Of course, nothing is perfect. High-density IR heating puts a massive strain on your power supply. Teflon handles the heat, but the high current draw can be a pain. If your breakers or contactors aren’t sized right, you’ll deal with those annoying nuisance trips that kill your momentum. And a quick tip: watch your wire gauge. If it’s too thin, you’ll get a voltage drop, and your heating won’t be uniform across the wafer. You’ll see some spots hotter than others. To keep things running smooth, I’d suggest checking your terminal connections every three months. Heat makes metal expand and contract, which can loosen those lugs over time. A quick tighten now saves a huge headache later.
